Singer-turned-actor-politician Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead by gangsters close to his ancestral village in Mansa in Punjab on May 29, 2022. He was traveling in his vehicle when the assailants fired at the singer and his two friends. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. Leaving behind his celebrated tag of a top Punjabi rap singer with fans across the globe, Moosewala, belonging to native Moosa village, made his electoral debut as a Congress candidate from Mansa for the February 20 Assembly polls. The killing of singer-turned-actor-politician Sidhu Moose Wala, with a huge fan base running into millions, seems to be in Punjab to be an inter-gang rivalry, Director General of Police (DGP) VK Bhawra said. “Prima facie, it seems to be an inter-gang rivalry between the Lawrence Bishnoi group and the Lucky Patial group,” he said. “The Lawrence Bishnoi group has taken the responsibility of Sidhu Moosewala’s murder citing it be the retaliation to the killing of Vicky Midhukhera,” he said. In less than 24 hours after his security was curtailed by the government, Moosewala was shot dead by gangsters close to his ancestral village in Mansa in broad daylight. He was on the wheel in a Mahindra Thar SUV when the assailants, believed to be 10-12, fired more than 20 rounds at point-blank range at the singer and his two friends, who got grievous injuries. Moosewala got seven-eight bullets. Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar reportedly claimed responsibility for the murder of the singer in a Facebook post. Goldy Brar is a close aid of gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, who is also said to be involved in the singer’s murder. Several Bollywood celebrities took to their respective social media accounts to mourn his demise.
